ABOUT THE VIETNAM HUMAN RIGHTS NETWORK
MISSION STATEMENT
To defend and promote human rights, civil liberties and all other fundamental
freedoms for all Vietnamese citizens set forth by the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights, and subsequent international human rights instruments.
GOALS
-
To raise awareness of the human rights situation in Vietnam.

To support human rights movements and human rights activists in Vietnam.
-
To cooperate with Vietnamese and international human rights organizations.
-
To advocate Vietnamese people’ basic rights before public opinion and
international human rights organizations.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Over the
last twenty five years, VNHRN has introduced and carried out a number of
activities to address the following challenges:
Information and Education
-
Publishing a newsletter on human rights.
-
Establishing an Internet website to rapidly disseminate human rights news

Translating and publishing the International Human Rights Code, documents, and
writings on human rights for dissemination both inside Vietnam and in the
Diaspora.

Organizing human rights seminars and conferences in Montreal (Canada), Sydney
(Australia), Munich (Germany), Paris (France), and several cities in the US.

Publishing Annual Human Rights Reports (since 2009).
Seeking International Support
-
Cooperating with several international and national human rights
organizations.
-
Participating in the Vietnam Human Rights Day (May 11 every year) held
annually at the U.S. Senate since 1998.
-
Meeting with both executive and legislative leaders of a number of countries
to seek support for human rights in Vietnam, such as the meeting held with U.S.
President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney in the White House (on
May 29, 2007), or with Honorable Geoffrey Harris, Chairman of the Human Rights
Committee of the European Union (on May 06, 2008)…

Participating in several international conferences on human rights, such as
the 2000 United Nations Millennium Forum in New York, the 2003 International
Conference for Human Rights in Holland, the First World Forum for
Democratization in Asia (Taipei, Taiwan, 2005), the Third International
Conference on Human Rights Education in Kraków, Poland, 2012…
Providing Support to Activists inside Vietnam

Establishing and annually presenting Vietnam Human Rights Award to outstanding
human rights activists in VN (since 2002).

In cooperation with l’Association France-Vietnam d’Entraide and Reporters
Without Borders, bestowing Street Reporter Award to social media activists in VN
since 2013.
-
Providing financial and medical assistance to the activists in difficulty.
